Jasmine Directory has been around since 2009. It was started by Gombos Atila Robert, PhD, a former DMOZ editor, back when hand-picked directories were how you found good websites. He never dropped the habit: every site in here was accepted by a person, not by a crawler.

Robert holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the West University of Timișoara and a marketing degree from Babeș-Bolyai University. He has spent more than 15 years in marketing and SEO, some of them building and promoting web applications for AOL / Verizon Media.

Between 2013 and 2014 the directory picked up eight editorial quality awards. Listings are still reviewed by hand, the DMOZ way.

He runs Jasmine in his spare time, around the other IT projects he cares a lot about. That is also why the pace here is deliberate: things get done when they can be done properly.

The idea has stayed the same from day one: the web is full of noise and half-true information, and a directory is only useful if somebody actually filters it. So we filter. Each website gets opened, read and judged by an editor on our own platform, built for exactly this job.
